We are two days into the Holiday Bazaar at the Rochester Museum & Science Center. Lots of fun so far, and some new friends, like the guys at MonkeyBizniz who make the most fascinating, decorated boxes. Their work inspired Elizabeth to make the following. (Although we must be honest: this does NOT do justice to their work!)
Elizabeth made some lovely originals for this show, all Christmas themed. I will leave you with a sample, and the hope that you were able to make it to the show!
Elizabeth's mother and father brought a fir tree into the house, and then brought out boxes of things to hang on it. There were strings of lights, and ornaments with hooks on them to attach to the branches. Basil thought it would be fun to use the strings of lights as a grapevine!
Once the mice saw that some of the ornaments were made to look like animals, they wanted to get into the act. There were NO mice on that tree, and they decided it needed some. Dill admired one of the angel ornaments so much that he grabbed some feathers to stick on his back and insisted that we hoist him onto a branch. I've attached a sketch below of the result. He lasted an entire 5 minutes, until Elizabeth made some hot cocoa and he begged us to take him down!
Since she set up the show in the Southbury Public Library, Elizabeth has been very busy shopping and wrapping presents for Christmas. The mice have been getting into the spirit and trying to help, even wrapping little gifts for each other--this is almost a fruitless pastime for mice, since they are so inquisitive and can hardly wait. In fact, it was so impossible for SOMEone (Basil!) to keep his paws out of the gifts that the others popped him into one of the clear plastic boxes that Elizabeth uses to store presents.
A little further trouble ensued when they discovered tape.
Elizabeth says they MUST learn to behave or she won't let them help "trim the tree." I wonder what she means?
